An ornithological sensation in Germany - a paradise chick was born for the first time in captivity. Breeding reggae birds of paradise (Paradisaea raggiana) in captivity is a tricky business.

The chick still looks completely different from its parents. There are no bright colors in the coloration of its plumage.

The bird park specialists at Walsrode in Lower Saxony have succeeded in breeding creatures with bright and lush plumage. The chick was born in December, and a month later it was first published and presented to visitors to the park.

This is the first breeding of the delightful Paradisaea raggiana not only in Germany but throughout Europe.

This is what the reggae bird of paradise looks like in all its glory in the wild.

In nature, birds of paradise live in the tropics of New Guinea. The body length of cute birds is 33 cm. The weight of the male is 270 grams, the female is 170 grams. The birds feed on fruits and insects.

It is known about 40 species of birds of paradise. Some of them were exterminated by hunters, attracted by the magnificent feathers of tropical birds.
